This page, like our Village, is under construction.
Please check back occasionally for updates to both.
Le Village de Vielle Mine (The Village of the Old Mine) is an ongoing project of the Old Mines Area Historical Society to recreate the feel of the Old Mines Village as it would have been in the mid to late 1800's. The cabins listed here are all from the Old Mines vicinity. The original logs, some over 175 years old, are used as often as possible. When necessary due to deterioration of the originals, supplemental logs will be used. These cabins have undergone changes, modifications, and additions through the years while the families who lived in them grew larger and often more prosperous. They have been reconstructed as true to their original design as our research leads us to believe that they were built. While we would like to stay as authentic as possible it is necessary to make allowances for preservation and maintainability of these cabins. For instance, the original roofs would have been hand split shakes instead of the more modern metal roofing.
The Village is currently not open to the public.
